“Clown du Cirque” is a narrative illustration for Art 273 at Cal Poly Humboldt during the Fall 2023 semester. It depicts an early 1900’s clown getting ready in a backstage green room, or here, a yellow room. The illustration was made using gouache, acrylic ink, and utilized brushes and a dip pen over a yellow underpainting. A playful scene and color palette are offset by the bright yellow and contrasting purple, which situates the story within the scene.
